Four men charged after dozens of pain-relief gas canisters were stolen from North East hospitals

Four men have appeared in court charged with stealing dozens of gas canisters from North East hospitals.

The canisters are used to house nitrous oxide, which is used by patients to help manage pain, and were stolen from hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Bishop Auckland and Darlington early on Sunday, March 22, Durham Constabulary has said.

Police recovered a car in North Yorkshire and stopped a van in Lincolnshire and recovered the canisters.

Four men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and appeared before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, March 24.

They were: Oliver Zak Henry Evans, 22, of Sandy Lane North, Wallington; Harry David Bradley Goodrum, 23, of Norwich Road, Dereham; Jake Alexander Roberts, 23, of Chestnut Hill, Norwich; and Wayne John Grady, 41, of no fixed abode.

They were remanded into custody and will next appear at Teesside Crown Court on Tuesday, April 21.
