A man accused of racial harassment at a Sunderland away game is to stand trial.

Magistrates heard Colin Douthwaite, 45, of Cairo Street, Sunderland, denies a charge of intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

He is said to have done so by using abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour and the offence was racially aggravated at the Black Cats’ game against Burton Albion on September 10.

He will stand trial at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court on March 5.
