Emergency services called to a Peterlee street during the early hours after receiving reports of a vehicle fire

Fire crews and officers from Durham Constabulary were called to Matterdale Road in Peterlee after receiving reports of a car on fire.

Firefighters from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) and officers from Durham Constabulary were called to the scene shortly before 3am on Thursday, May 27, after receiving reports of a small vehicle fire.

It is understood that no one was injured during the incident and firefighters left the scene just after 3am.

A CDDFRS spokesperson said: “Reports of a small vehicle fire in Peterlee came into CDDFRS control just before 02:39 on 27 May. Crews from Wheatley Hill attended the fire.

"The police were in attendance. Wheatley Hill crews extinguished the fire using one hose reel and breathing apparatus.

"Crews left the scene 03:03. Fortunately no one was injured.”
