Delivery driver hit by his own van in hit-and-run theft

A delivery driver is recovering after being run over by his own van as it was stolen.

The driver was on his rounds in Easington Lane this morning, Thursday, April 23, when thieves jumped into his van.

He was not seriously hurt.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 11am we received a report of a suspected hit and run on Elemore Lane, in Easington Lane.

“It was reported a delivery driver was delivering a parcel when offenders gained entry to his vehicle which had been left empty momentarily.

“The van collided with the victim, who suffered minor injuries, before the occupants made off.

“Officers have since located the vehicle abandoned – along with the stolen property inside the van - in the School Road area of East Rainton.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting log 319 230420.”
