Danger-driver faces Christmas in jail after ramming incident in Sunderland's Chester Road

Kieran Black, 21, pinched a black Ford Fiesta and collided with a Nissan Qashqai on the A183 Chester Road at 7am on Monday, June 10.
Black, of Shepherd Terrace, Castletown, made the driver of the Qashqai feel like he was “trying to ram my car off the road”, a court heard.

Hide AdWhen arrested, he gave a breath test at over twice the drink drive limit, prosecutor Clare Irving said.
At South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, Black pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol.
He also admitted taking a vehicle without consent, driving without a licence and driving without uninsurance.
Mrs Irving said the Fiesta was taken without permission from a garage and suffered £2,200 of damage after striking the Qashqai.

Hide AdIn a victim statement read to the court, the Qashqai’s owner revealed he was on his way to work when Black appeared.
He said: “The whole incident was very scary. I honestly felt like he was trying to ram my car off the road.”
The court heard the dangerous driving conviction carries a jail term of between 36 weeks and 18 months.
Black gave a reading for alcohol in breath of 79mcg. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Hide AdChris Wilson, defending, said a report into Black’s offending was required before sentencing.
Mr Wilson conceded it should be all-options, meaning imprisonment is possible.
Black was handed an interim driving ban by District Judge Zoe Passfield.
The judge granted him unconditional bail to be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, December 12.
