'Collect your children from the streets' call to parents after youngsters play chicken and set off fireworks

Police have told parents to collect their children from the streets “immediately” after a night of trouble in a village - from playing with fireworks to putting themselves in danger in front of vehicles.

Peterlee Police have called on families to check where their youngsters are and the company they are keeping after a series of incidents in Shotton Colliery, particularly in the Potto Street area.

They posted an appeal to parents after they were called to a “large number” of reports last night, Wednesday, October 29, as the problems continue to trouble the village.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “Youths are continuing to cause antisocial behaviour and putting themselves in danger by running in front of vehicles, riding bicycles towards moving vehicles and playing with fireworks.

“We would urge all parents to find out where your children are and who they are with and collect them from the streets immediately.”
