Car suspected of being driven by drunk driver taken off the streets

A car has been seized after reports were made it was being driven by a drunk driver.

Officers from Peterlee Neighbourhood Police Team spotted the vehicle as they were out patrolling in Passfield Way in the town yesterday, Wednesday, January 27.

It was removed as part of a campaign to reduce the number of deliberate fires across the area.

A spokesperson for the team said: “Relevant checks were completed on the vehicle and it was subsequently seized under Operation Valdis.

"The vehicle had reports of potentially being driven by a drink driver.

"Operation Valdis is aimed at getting vehicles like these off our streets and out of our communities.

"It is a joint initiative between Durham Constabulary, County Durham and Darlington Fire Service and Durham County Council.
