Cannabis farm found inside empty factory just yards away from police office

A large cannabis farm has been uncovered inside what was believed to be an empty factory – just yards away from a police base.

Thirteen men are under arrest by Durham Constabulary in the wake of the discovery.

A police presence is expected to remain outside the unit on Peterlee’s South West Industrial Estate after teams of officers found the drugs farm on Wednesday, March 18.

The factory, which is part of the Whitehouse Business Park on the estate, is on Traynor Way and opposite Durham Constabulary’s warehouse.

A strong smell of cannabis has been reported in the area.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Officers have uncovered a large cannabis farm at an empty industrial unit on the Whitehouse Industrial Park, in Peterlee.

“Thirteen men have been arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis and are currently in custody.

“An investigation is ongoing and officers will remain on scene over the next few days.”
