Autistic teenager pushed to the floor and punched in unprovoked attack

A vulnerable teenager was chased before being pushed to the ground and punched by two boys in an unprovoked attack.

Detectives say the incident has had such a huge impact on the victim, who is autistic, that he will no longer leave the house alone.

It is believed the victim was walking to his parent’s house along the high street when two teenage boys approached him. They started shouting at him before chasing him.

They caught up with him near to the Battered and Fried takeaway, in Carrville High Street, and pushed him to the floor before punching him several times.

The victim suffered a bloodied nose, graze to the hip and broken glasses.

The incident occurred shortly before 6pm on Sunday, December 29.

Officers are trying to trace the suspects who were believed to be with two girls.

The first suspect is described as white, around 5ft 8in, of average build and was wearing a black jacket with a white hood, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.

The second suspect is described as white, around 5ft 11in, of slim build with curly hair.

PC Emma Watson, from Durham City response, said: “We have carried out extensive enquiries to trace the suspects, which has included reviewing hours of CCTV footage.

“Unfortunately we have not been able to identify the suspects, therefore we would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.”
