Arson investigation launched after double car fire in Sunderland street

Emergency services were called to a Sunderland street after two vehicles were set on fire.

Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) responded to the call-out, in Hill View Square, late on Wednesday, September 9.

TWFRS sent a crew from its Rainton Bridge station to the scene shortly before 11.45pm on Wednesday, with the incident brought under control by 12.15am on Thursday, September 10.

Northumbria Police had confirmed that its officers are treating the incident as suspected arson.

A statement from the force said: “Shortly after midnight this morning (Thursday) we received a report that two vehicles were on fire on Hill View Square, Sunderland.

“Emergency services attended and the fires were extinguished. Thankfully, nobody was injured.

“An investigation has been launched into the circumstances behind the blaze, which police are currently treating as suspected arson.
