Arrest after stabbing at Sunderland address

A 35-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing in Sunderland, police have said.

Northumbria Police has said that officers were called to Kenya Road in Downhill after 10pm last night to reports that a man has been assaulted.

When police officers arrived on the scene they discovered a 46-year-old injured man who they believe had been stabbed. He was then taken to hospital for treatment and police say that his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to the incident.

Police have said that they believe the two men were known to one another.”

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 10pm yesterday, we received a report a man had been assaulted at an address on Kenya Road, Sunderland.

“Officers attended the scene and found a 46-year-old man with injuries consistent with a stabbing. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“An investigation has been launched and a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

"He remains in police custody and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

“At present, all parties involved are believed to be known to each other.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by ringing 101 quoting log 1161 300720.”
