Arrest after man climbs over railings of Sunderland's Northern Spire Bridge

A man was arrested on suspicion of public nuisance after he climbed over the railings of the Northern Spire Bridge in Sunderland.

Police were called to the bridge around 2pm on Tuesday, August 11, following reports that a man had climbed onto the wrong side of the railings.

The bridge was closed while officers attended the scene and reopened once the man was brought to safety.

The man, 55, was arrested on suspicion of public nuisance but has been released with no further action.
