A man has been arrested after police swooped on Easington Lane after a deliver driver was threatened with an axe.

Pictures shared on social media show a large armed police presence in the area following reports a delivery driver was threatened by a man wielding an axe at an address.

Nobody was injured in the incident, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were first called to the incident in Easington Lane at 11am on Wednesday, January 13, where a delivery driver had been threatened at an address.

Northumbria Police have now confirmed a 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A force spokesperson said: “At about 11am we received a report that a delivery driver had been threatened by a man with an axe at an address in Easington Lane.

"Officers were deployed to the scene and a 29-year-old man has been arrested.

"Nobody was injured during the incident.”
