Armed police officers carry out search after reports of disturbance involving firearm at house

Armed officers held four men while a search was carried out of a house after claims a firearm had been involved in a disturbance.

Durham Constabulary has confirmed it sent the officers to Handley Street, which runs between Sunderland Road and Park Road in Horden, following reports of concern last night, Sunday, August 9.

A force spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a disturbance involving a firearm at an address in Handley Street, Peterlee, at around 10.10pm last night.

“On attendance, armed officers detained four males while a search of the property was carried out.

“No weapons were located in the address, and the incident was found not to be as reported.

“All four detainees were released without further action, and inquiries are now being carried out to determine whether the initial report was genuine.”
