Armed police deployed in Sunderland in hunt for suspected knifeman

Armed police joined the hunt for a suspect who was reported to have threatened a man with a knife.

Two men were later arrested as part of the investigation after the alarm was raised in Parsons Road, Washington, at just after 2pm on Thursday, August 20.

They are still in custody while Northumbria Police investigations continue.

A statement from the force read: “Shortly after 2pm today, Thursday, police received a report of a man with a knife on Parsons Road, Washington.

“It was reported a 23-year-old man had been threatened with a knife by another man.

“The suspect then fled the area in a vehicle.

“Officers were deployed to the area and following a search located the suspect’s vehicle on Coach Road Estate and arrested two men, both 20, on suspicion of affray.

“Both men remain in police custody at this time.”
