As well as the usual range of cases, violent disorder in Sunderland city centre at the beginning of the month meant an extra workload, with many offenders fast-tracked through the system.
Here are 27 people jailed or handed suspended sentences for offences in and around Sunderland during the month.
They all appeared at Newcastle Crown Court unless otherwise stated.
1. Paul Sloan
Sloan, 51, of Murton Street, Sunderland, admitted arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.
Judge Stephen Earl sentenced him to two years, suspended for two years.

2. Gavin Wilkinson.
Wilkinson, 34, of Derwent Crescent, Great Lumley, County Durham, pleaded guilty to a dwelling house burglary.
Mr Recorder James Wood KC sentenced him to 876 days in prison | Northumbria Police.
3. John Ferguson.
Ferguson, 28, of Dene Street, Sunderland, admitted two charges of burglary and possessing class C drugs.
He was jailed for a total of 876 days | Northumbria Police
4. John Nicholson.
Nicholson, 31, of Ravenna Road, Sunderland, admitted possessing a class A drug with intent to supply, possessing a class B drug and possessing criminal property.
