Here is a round up of a dozen criminals who were jailed for various different crimes including murder, rape and theft.
5. Ian MacLeod
The court heard MacLeod suffered a number of health issues including a rare blood condition and pneumonia and would, therefore, find custody extremely difficult as he requires regular treatment. Judge Stephen Earl said: "I accept you are a man of good character.
"I accept that you have significant medical issues. But of course you knew that when you took part in the offending."

McLeod downed 24 cans before attacking his girlfriend and three emergency workers
Newcastle Crown Court heard McLeod, who has a history of violence and attacks on police, had formed a romance with a pen-pal who wrote to him while he was serving an 11-year sentence imposed in 2009.
Within months of being released back onto the streets, the 43-year-old launched a brutal attack on her at her home last October, where he repeatedly punched, headbutted and kicked her until she feared she would die.
He was caught on body-worn police camera lashing out with kicks when the officers tried to restrain him and eventually was subdued by CS gas.

Edward Palmer was put behind bars after admitting his 13th breach of a court order meant to keep him away from his ex.
Palmer was banned from having contact with his former partner under the terms of a restraining order imposed in September 2017 after their relationship ended "badly".
Newcastle Crown Court heard the 41-year-old had flouted it 12 times by making unwanted contact and been given prison sentences, as well as other penalties, as a result.
Judge Julie Clemitson sentenced him to 20 weeks behind bars.
The court heard Palmer has "reduced culpability" for his offending as a result of his mental health difficulties and will receive input from authorities that can help him after his release. Photo: Northumbria Police
Jonathan Adams, who threatened to stab and hurl bricks at police officers from a rooftop, was jailed after a judge said he posed ‘a dangerous risk’.
Adams, 22, took to the roof of a house in the city’s Portchester Square when his mother contacted police saying he had a machete in the early hours of the morning.
Clare Irving, prosecuting, said the incident happened in September last year and when police arrived Adams, of Palgrove Road, climbed up onto the nearby roof.
Although Adams pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour, a spokesman for the probation service said: “He denies he had a knife and that his mother made it up.
“But, on previous occasions he is known to carry weapons and is known to have used those weapons. He is assessed as a high risk of harm.”
District Judge Kathryn Meek, said: “You have a number of previous convictions involving violence and weapons.
“You remain a dangerous risk to the public.”
