Here are 11 people jailed or given suspended sentences for offences in or around Sunderland during the month of September.
They all appeared at Newcastle Crown Court unless otherwise stated.
5. Hoang Hoang
Hoang, 26, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to producing cannabis and perverting the course of justice. Judge Julie Clemitson sentenced him to eight months behind bar
6. Thomas Allan
Allan, 38, of Hendon Valley Road, Hendon, Sunderland, admitted common assault and denied occasioning actual bodily harm but was found guilty by a jury. He was jailed for 18 months.
7. Rory Witten
Witten denied attempted murder and possession of a bladed article but was found guilty of both charges by a jury after a trial in October 2022. The 41-year-old, formally of Stavordale Street, Seaham, County Durham, appeared back at the same court this month, where Mr Justice Morris sentenced him to a hospital order under section 45a of the Mental Health Act. If his illness is treated successfully, he will then be subject to a custodial sentence for life with a minimum term of 13 years and eight months
8. Jefferson
Jefferson, 36, of no fixed address, later admitted assault and imitation firearm charges as well as taking a car without the owner’s consent and driving without insurance. Judge Stephen Earl sentenced him to a total of 30 months with a restraining order
