South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB), Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) and the RNLI were involved in the operation.
An SSVB statement said the emergency services team had been called to Whitburn Steel after a report of a yacht aground around 7.30pm this evening, Wednesday, September 2.
Team members kept watch while the Sunderland and Tynemouth lifeboats recovered the crew and the vessel taken under tow.”
