Court roundup '“ Theft of prawns and chocolate bars among cases dealt with in Sunderland

The following cases have been dealt with at Sunderland Magistrates' Court.

David Churchill, 18, Railway Terrace, New Herrington, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to stealing £43.95 worth of frozen prawns from Farmfoods on March 22.

He was given a 12-month community order, with up to 20 days’ specified activity. He was also fined £5 and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £60.

Gary Marshall, 55, of Chester Road, Sunderland, was found guilty, after a trial, of failing to identify the driver of a BMW vehicle between July 28 and August 25, 2014.

He was fined £625 and was told to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £62.50 and costs of £200. His driving record was endorsed with six points.

Ahmed Ben-Sammouna, 30, of John Street, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to causing harassment, alarm or distress, on December 1, 2015.

He was given a conditional discharge for 6 months and was told to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £15 and costs of £85.

Paul Stoddart, 26, of Princess Street, Ashbrooke, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to stealing 10 bars of Galaxy chocolate valued at £10 from Poundland, on April 6. He was given a conditional discharge for 6 months and was told to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £15 and costs of £85.

Leslie Marrs, 37, of Salisbury Street, Hendon, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and being drunk and disorderly in Dellfield Drive, Sunderland, on April 10.

He was fined £140 and was told to pay compensation of £100.

James Allsopp, 18, of East Vines, East End, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to an assault on March 20. He was told to pay compensation of £100, a victim surcharge of £15, and costs of £85.

Hakim Collace, 18, of Mowbray Road, Sunderland admitted possession of amphetamine and diamorphine on April 10. He was given an absolute discharge and £85 costs.
