Company brews up great support for charity

The Peterlee-based Profound Group hosted a coffee morning in support of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning which is the charity’s biggest fundraising event.

It was organised by staff including Profound’s young apprenticeship team, and proved to be such a huge success that other companies got involved. The total raised was £1,225.

Steven Ward, owner and chair of the County Durham-based training and recruitment firm, said: “We were so proud to participate in the event and raise funds for the charity. The morning surpassed expectation as employers across Peterlee Business Park joined us alongside friends, and family of staff.

“Macmillan plays such an invaluable part in the community helping individuals and families affected by cancer. Having lost my mam last summer to the disease, my own family witnessed first-hand the dedication, commitment, and personal support the Macmillan nurses provide.

“We will be forever grateful for their support during such difficult and challenging times. I urge any business, family or individual to find a way of supporting the Macmillan Charity. I would also like to thank our staff for their contribution and for looking after all the people who attended the coffee morning.”

Macmillan provides nurses and other medical professionals to support people affected by cancer along with the Macmillan Cancer Support and Information Centre.

The centre provides up-to-date information about living with cancer, for patients and their families and friends. They now have Bereavement support, specialist headwear, a bra clinic, Mindfulness, Tai Chi and a benefits advisor services to help support the local community.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager Liz Airey said: “People need financial help to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring. We have a benefits advisor in the support centre to advise people what benefits they are entitled to and help them to claim. We also provide grants to people in financial difficulties Macmillan grants are to help people meet expenses that have arisen from or are associated with their cancer.

“I would like to say a huge thanks to everyone at Profound Group; they have all done a fantastic job fundraising to help local people affected by cancer.
