Dummett limped out of Saturday’s 2-1 win over West Ham with a hamstring problem.

Versatile former Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback, moved to left-back after Dummett’s substitution, has been put on standby to play there again at Vicarage Road.

Asked about Dummett’s injury, head coach Steve McClaren said: “It’s a hamstring.

“But hopefully it’s just a little bit of tightness.”

McClaren replaced Dummett with new signing Henri Saivet, whose introduction allowed Dummett to drop into the back four from a wide midfield role.

“We might see a bit more of Jack at full-back,” said McClaren. “It’s a possibility, although we don’t want to because Dummett has been doing very well there. With the injury, we had a little look at that. I thought it was very good, and Henri (Saivet) stepped into midfield well.

“You need that, you need a squad with options.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Moussa Sissoko feels that Newcastle are finally turning a corner.

“It feels like a big week for the club,” said Sissoko “Against Manchester United, it was a fantastic game and we made one point.

“We said we have to win this game (West Ham), and we did it. Shelvey started and he played very well, showing some very good things, and Saivet came on and he also did very well.

“So I hope they can now help us for the rest of the season, because we need everyone to help us finish higher up the league, if it’s possible.”

On Shelvey, Sissoko added: “He is a really good signing for us. For me, his style is very similar to Steven Gerrard’s.

“He can play the long ball easily, he can get on the second balls, he gave a fantastic ball to Daryl (Janmaat) and then Daryl crossed for Gini, so he’s going to be a very good player for us.

“I hope he and Saivet are going to help us for the rest of the season, because we need everyone to contribute to winning games and moving us forward.”
