Cleadon - Down Your Way

Yesterday, WI members from the region took part in their annual welly plodge from Seaburn to Whitburn and then on to Cleadon All Saints' Church hall for a well deserved hot lunch, provided by Cleadon WI members. Later, the new Cleadon WI group met in Cleadon Methodist Church hall at 7pm when Philip Curtis was speaking about the 1960s.

The Soup and Roll lunch will be closed today for one week only as work on the electric metres is to be carried out in the hall. It will be business as usual the following week.

Cleadon WI meets tonight in All Saints’ parish hall at 6.30pm when Marie Main will talk about A Tour of Durham Cathedral.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. A circuit communion will be held in Cleadon Methodist Church at 10am, with tea or coffee afterwards. A Eucharist service with the Imposition of Ashes will be held at 7.30pm in All Saints’ Church.

On Thursday, The Thursday Club meets at 1.30pm in the Old Schoolroom, next to All Saints’ parish hall. This is a social group of retired people who enjoy talks and demonstrations, outings and visits, and they welcome any like-minded people to join them. This month, the speaker will be the Rev Alf Waite who will be talking about The Royals.

The Mothers’ Union of All Saints’ Church meets on Thursday at 2pm in the Chapter House.

On Saturday, there will be a coffee morning in All Saints’ parish hall from 10.30am to noon. There will be the usual bring-and-buy stall and a raffle, as well as plenty of coffee or tea with scones and biscuits. The proceeds this month are for church funds.

A love-themed messy church will take place on Saturday from 3pm to 6pm in Cleadon Methodist Church hall. All kinds of crafts are available suitable for families. Everyone brings a plate of food for the buffet style tea.

The Married Couples group meets on Monday at 7.30pm in the Chapter House, beside All Saints’ Church, when Nigel Thomas will be speaking.

The Adele Forrester School of Dance meets every Saturday in All Saints’ parish hall. Dancing of all kinds, from tap to ballet and stage to disco, is taught to young people from three years old. There is also a class, Dinky Dancers, on Wednesday at 10.30am in Cleadon Methodist Church hall for toddlers. Ring 4261656 for more information.
