Cleadon WI meets tonight at 6.30pm in All Saints' parish hall. This will be the AGM. At their last meeting, members were told that 84 ladies had undertaken the welly plodge last month and come for a hot lunch at All Saints' parish hall. A very successful day for the county!

The third session of this year’s Lent course, Another Story Must Begin, takes place at 1.30pm this afternoon and at 7.30pm tomorrow in the Chapter House next to All Saints’ Church.

On Thursday, the Mothers’ Union of All Saints’ Church meets in the Chapter House at 2pm.

The Thursday Club meets on Thursday this week at 1.30pm in The Old Schoolroom, next to the parish hall. This is a group of retired people who enjoy a social get together with speakers and demonstrations, and some organised outings to places of interest or to the theatre. This month the speaker will be Geoff Hugh, who will talk about the Trevelyans and Wallington.

The coffee morning on Saturday from 10.30am-noon in All Saints’ parish hall will be in aid of church funds. There will be a bring-and-buy stall, a raffle and plenty of coffee or tea with scones and biscuits. Come along and enjoy a catch-up with friends.

Cleadon Methodist Church is hosting a 1940s-themed afternoon tea in the hall on Saturday from 3pm-5pm. Tickets are £5 and you are dared to come in vintage dress. The afternoon’s proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Society.

On Monday, Cleadon WI is holding a Daffodil Tea in All Saints’ parish hall from 2.30pm-4pm. There will be an Easter theme with homemade cakes and crafts. Tickets are £4 and all are welcome to come along.

New Cleadon WI meets on Monday, March 14, at 7pm in Cleadon Methodist Church hall. The guest speaker is a representative of the teenage cancer charity, Josie’s Dragonfly Trust. The competition will be something with wings and social time will be a game of bingo. Visitors and new members are welcome.

The regular Friday Day Club in All Saints’ parish hall is, unfortunately, having to be curtailed. The organiser who has run the club for more than 30 years will be incapacitated after an operation to her ankle and feels it is better to stop now. Jackie, one of the helpers, has agreed to carry on every third and fifth Friday. However, the club will be open on Friday, March 11. Ring 5190582 for information or if you would like to join for a meal.

Lingo Kids is a new venture which teaches French to children from reception class to Year 6 in the Old Schoolroom every Wednesday, the youngest beginning at 4.40pm. Classes are small and the activities are fun, which will give children a solid grounding for development later in school. Teachers are experienced specialists, who will promote the love of languages from an early age. Ring 07454383249 for more information.

Keep Tuesday, April 5, free. Compass Acapella together with Tyneside Acapella will be in concert at All Saints’ parish hall at 7.30pm. Tickets will be available soon at £5, which includes interval refreshments, from 5363346. This is a musical experience not to be missed.
