Christian Aid Week ended last Saturday. If your collector did not manage to find you in, please consider taking your filled envelope to either of the churches in the village or ring 5363346 and we will arrange to have it collected. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for this charity.

Cleadon Village History Society will meet tonight in the Old Schoolroom, next to All Saints’ parish hall, at 7.15pm, when Craig Fitzakerly will discuss his Grand Designs 3.

Cleadon WI invites you to a fashion show by Kay Fashions tonight at 7pm in All Saints’ parish hall. Tickets are £4 which includes refreshments.

The new church wardens for All Saints’ Church will be sworn in tonight at 7pm by the Archdeacon at St John’s Church in Hebburn.

On Tuesday, May 31, between 6pm and 8pm, there is to be a consultation meeting by South Tyneside Council, to discuss planning in the borough, including Cleadon, over the next 20 years. This will be held in All Saints’ parish hall. Go along to have your say.

The Men’s Fellowship of All Saints’ Church will meet on Monday, June 6, at 7.30pm in the Committee Room of All Saints’ parish hall.

Compass Acapella, the Cleadon-based close harmony group, will be singing in the Masonic Hall, at Beamish Town Centre on Saturday, June 11, at 1.30pm.

Cleadon Scouts are holding a street party to celebrate the 90th birthday of the Queen at West Hall Campsite on Sunday, June 12, from 1pm. If you would like to go, ring 07891 166011.

The Bede’s Way Sponsored Walk will take place on Saturday, June 25, walking from St Paul’s Church in Jarrow to St Peter’s Church in Monkwearmouth. The 12-mile walk crosses Cleadon Hills and a short stop is made at the windmill where there will be refreshments provided by All Saints’ Church and where walkers can enjoy panoramic views towards the sea and listen to a short talk to mark the cultural significance of the 1,300th anniversary of the Codex Amiatinus, which left St Peter’s in 716AD as a gift for Pope Gregory II. Sponsorship is in aid of Christian Aid, which is “fighting poverty step by step”. Register for the walk by email ([email protected]) or call 2280115. There is also a family friendly four-mile circular walk from St Peter’s Church along Roker seafront.
