Cleadon - Down Your Way

The Friday Lunch Club will be open in All Saints' parish hall on Friday from 11am when there will be coffee and biscuits and time to chat with friends. This will be followed by a two-course meal at noon. Everyone is welcome but for catering purposes, ring 5190582 if you would like to come.

On Saturday, there will be a table-top sale in the Toby Britannia Inn from 9.30am to 2pm. There will be a number of stalls and all proceeds will be donated to local animal charities.

Also on Saturday, there will be an extra coffee morning in Cleadon Methodist Church hall from 10am to noon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care. There will be a cake stall and other stalls with a raffle and plenty of tea, coffee and scones.

The Married Couples Group of All Saints’ Church will meet on Monday at 7-30pm. Last month members heard about time spent in South Africa by the Rev Paul Cleever-Thorpe while he was a trainee Methodist minister. This month the group will be entertained by Walter Carr.

Cleadon Village History Society meets next Tuesday, November 22, when the speaker will be Lucy Routledge, the Historic Buildings Officer of South Tyneside.

On Tuesday, December 6, the Customs House Big band will be giving its annual Christmas concert in All Saints’ parish hall. The concert begins at 7.30pm and the ticket price, £5, includes interval refreshments. This has always been a wonderful evening and the audience can look forward to an excellent programme with fantastic instrumental work, and vocals by Ruth Lambert. Tickets are available by ringing 5363346.

All Saints’ Church will be holding a Christmas coffee morning with festive fun on Saturday, December 10. There will be gifts, cakes, tombolas, face painting and cookie making for the youngsters, a Christmas quiz, refreshments in the Old Schoolroom, and entertainment by the local school choir. The draw will take place at 1pm and tickets for this are on sale at 50p from members of the congregation or from the stall during the morning. Get your tickets early and be in with the chance of the £100 first prize with masses of other prizes to look forward to.

A Dokan Karate Club meets in All Saints’ parish hall on Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm for juniors and 7pm to 8pm for adults. The club does well in competitions and if you would like to be involved, ring 07939130411 for more information.

A T’ai Chi qigong calm movement class for beginners takes place in All Saints’ parish hall on Wednesdays at 10.45am. Ring 07891419006 for information.
