Cleadon - Down Your Way

On Saturday, there will be a Christmas fair in Cleadon Methodist Church hall from 10am to 2pm. Refreshments will include coffee, tea and scones as well as soup and sandwiches. A cake stall, raffle and games are available and you can see Santa, all for £1 entrance. Go along and enjoy some festive fun.

On Sunday, there will be a Christingle service in All Saints’ Church at 4pm when “candle” boxes filled with coins will be presented for the Church of England Children’s Society. The service is for all ages and everyone is welcome to go along and help this very worthy charity.

Next Tuesday, December 6, the annual Carols Around the Christmas Tree will take place beside the war memorial at 6.30pm. Music will be provided by JW Brass and there will be a collection for St Clare’s Hospice. Hot mince pies will be provided and the Britannia Inn welcomes people afterwards with some warm hospitality.

Also next Tuesday, December 6, All Saints’ parish hall welcomes a return visit of the Customs House Big Band at 7.30pm. Admission is by ticket only, and these are available from 0191 536 3346 at £5, which includes interval refreshments. The band including its vocalist Ruth Lambert will give a new programme of swing and jazz. The second half will include some Christmas items to get everyone in the mood. The rafters will be ringing, so make sure of your place early and enjoy a fantastic musical evening.

On Saturday, December 10, All Saints’ Church will hold its Christmas coffee morning with festive family fun. Opening at 10am to the cheerful tones of Cleadon Village Church of England Academy’s choir, there will be games, children’s activities including cookie making and decorating, face painting and a Christmas quiz, gift and cake stalls, a wine and spirit tombola and a chocolate tombola. Tea, coffee, scones and mince pies will be available in the Old Schoolroom for £2. Also the prize draw will take place at 1pm with a chance of winning £100 first prize or one of the many other prizes donated by members of Cleadon community.

Slimming World holds two classes every Thursday in All Saints’ parish hall at 9.30am and at 11.30am. Anyone who would like to lose a few pounds before the party season can just go along for some friendly support and advice.

Learning Ladders provides extra tuition in maths and English in the Old Schoolroom next to the parish hall. Children can learn with fun activities to help build confidence.
