Cleadon - Down Your Way

Tonight there will be Carols around the Christmas tree beside the War Memorial from 6.30pm. Mince pies will be served while a collection is taken in aid of St Clare's Hospice. Afterwards hospitality is offered at the Britannia Toby Inn.

Also tonight, the Customs House Big Band will be playing in All Saints’ parish hall from 7.30pm. A new programme of swing and jazz style music together with some seasonal pieces will certainly wow the audience, many of whom come regularly to follow this wonderful band with their resident singer Ruth Lambert. Admission is by ticket only, available at £5, which includes interval refreshments, by calling 0191 536 3346.

On Thursday, the Mothers’ Union of All Saints’ Church will hold its Christmas meeting in the parish hall at 2pm. The speaker will be Margaret Wright of Cleadon Methodist Church and she will have a number of items on display to illustrate her talk. Go along and enjoy the afternoon. You will find it interesting.

The Thursday Club meets this week in the Old Schoolroom next to All Saints’ parish hall at 1.30pm. Members enjoy a variety of talks and demonstrations as well as outings and visits to places of interest. Anyone who is retired and enjoys social occasions is welcome along to this or any future meeting.

On Saturday, All Saints’ Church is holding a Christmas Coffee Morning with festive family fun. Opening at 10am, there are stalls with gifts, cakes etc, tombola stalls with wine and spirits and chocolate, children’s face painting, cookie making and decorating, a Christmas quiz and entertainment by the choir of Cleadon Village Church of England Academy. In the Old Schoolroom there will be coffee or tea with scones and mince pies for £2. The grand draw will take place during the morning, so make sure you have your ticket at 50p for the chance to win £100 or other fantastic prizes. Go along and enjoy a fun packed day.

New Cleadon WI meets on Monday in Cleadon Methodist Church hall at 7pm. The last meeting of the year will be a Christmas party night, with entertainment by the singer Stuart Cameron. Afterwards there will be a buffet supper, a bran tub and carol singing.

The members of Cleadon WI, which normally meets on the second Tuesday of the month in All Saints’ parish hall at 6.30pm, are meeting next Tuesday, December 13, at South Shields Golf Club for a Christmas meal together.

The Adele Forrester School of Dance meets in All Saints’ parish hall on Saturdays from noon until 4pm. Tap, stage, ballet and disco dancing is taught for all ages from three years. There is also a class for children under three years on Wednesday mornings at 10.30am in Cleadon Methodist Church hall. Go along to a class or call 0191 426 1656 for more information.
