Cleadon - Down Your Way

Cleadon WI will meet tonight at 6.30pm in All Saints' parish hall when Major Anthony Tate will be the guest speaker.

The final session of the course Faith Pictures takes place tonight at 7.30pm in the Chapter House.

The new comic thriller, Five Dead No Bodies, written by Susan Wear, writer of the acclaimed production The Duke in the Cupboard, and Rob Lawson, a former editor and long standing member of All Saints’ Church, will be performed from tomorrow, until Saturday at the Customs House in South Shields. The play, directed by Scott Young, will certainly make you smile and perhaps even make you consider the plight of the newspaper in this digital age. Tickets from £15 are available at the Customs House box office.

The Friday Lunch Club, held in All Saints’ parish hall, is open this Friday from 11am when there will be coffee and biscuits and people to enjoy a chat with, followed by a two-course meal with tea or coffee afterwards. Everyone is welcome to go along, but please let the organiser know if you are going by ringing 0191 519 0582.

The Married Couples Group of All Saints’ Church meets on Monday at 7.30pm. Last month, the Rev Vernon Cuthbert gave a Powerpoint presentation showing some of the ideas and discussions he had enjoyed at a course for clergy in Whitby. It had given the group much food for thought.

On Friday, February 24, there will be a social evening in All Saints’ parish hall from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.There will be a beetle drive followed by a fish and chips supper and entertainment from the Dave and John Duo. Admission at £6 is by ticket only so make sure of yours from members of the social committee or ring 5363346.

From March 2 to March 5, a group of bishops, led by the Bishop of Liverpool, will visit the Deanery of Jarrow and take part in a number of events to help people understand more of the Christian faith. In Cleadon there will be a Bake-off held in the Church of England Primary Academy in Boldon Lane on Friday, March 3, at 1.30pm, in which a number of teams will compete and there will be opportunity for talk and refreshments. On Saturday, March 4, at 10am, there will be a Hymnathon held in the Little Theatre in Boldon Lane, when favourite hymns and the stories behind the choices will be shared. On Sunday, instead of the usual services in All Saints’ Church, there will be one service in the parish hall at 9am in which both Sunday congregations and new friends will join together for communion with an integral breakfast. The closing service of the weekend will be at 3pm in Durham Cathedral. After the Mission Weekend, plans are in place for a Question Session entitled What do the Words Mean? and a series of discussions during Lent entitled Start, a course which is down to earth but aims to be fun.

The Rock is a new musical written by David Cooke with music by Graham Wright, of Cleadon. It will be performed at the Customs House in South Shields from Tuesday, March 7, until Saturday, March 11, at 7.30pm and on Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets at £10 are available at the Customs House Box Office.

The Adele Forrester School of Dance meets on Saturdays in All Saints’ parish hall. Qualified teachers give lessons in tap, stage, ballet, disco and drama for children from three years. A class is also held for children from 18 months to three years in Cleadon Village Methodist Church hall on Wednesdays from 10.30am. Call 07900687882 for further information.

On Tuesday, March 7, there will be a pie and peas supper in All Saints’ parish hall with entertainment from the Beacon Band. Tickets are £6 and are available by calling 0191 536 2879. All proceeds are in aid of Rotary and Inner Wheel charities.

LingoKids is a fun class for children to learn French or Spanish through engaging activities. Classes take place in the Old Schoolroom, next to the parish hall, on Wednesdays from 4.40pm. Ring 07454 383249 for more information.
