South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) and Sunderland's RNLI team and their inshore lifeboat were called out just before 11.15am today, Saturday, March 27, following a call for help to Lizard Point, which lies between Marsden and the Wherry at Whitburn
A spokesperson for the SSVLB said: “The team used their edge safety lines to locate the persons.

Hide Ad"We managed to make contact and reassure them that help was on the way.


”The ILB from RNLI - Sunderland Lifeboat Station were tasked to assist and team members guided them to the casualties.
"They recovered them and landed them at the Wherry were they were met by team members who ensured they were uninjured and required no further help.
"After giving safety advice they left the area.”
They added people should report all coastal emergencies dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
