Jade Bambrough stole the crown at the home of the Black Cats at a glittering final, which raised almost £5,000 for the club’s charity, the Foundation of Light.

As part of her prize, the 22-year-old from Thorney Close will rub shoulders with the SAFC first team in the Foundation’s annual fashion show, as well as winning direct entry into the national final of Supermodel England 2016 in November, the winner of which will take part in a modelling contest on the global stage.

Speaking about her win, Jade, who juggles modelling with working for Marks and Spencer insurance at Sunderland Enterprize Park, said: “I was absolutely over the moon to win, I’ve still not come down to earth. I feel overwhelmed by it all.”

Jade competed against 11 other girls in the contest in segments including four catwalk rounds where they wore outfits of their choice, as well as those provided by Love Niche.

Sophie Hodgson placed first runner up and Lilly Ross placed second runner up on the night after impressing judges including Rebecca Ridsdale (Miss Tees Valley 2015), Alexandra Devine (Supermodel England director), Simi Sanghera (owner of Bellissimi Beauty) and Kiera Weathers from last year’s X Factor.

Jade has competed in a number of pageants over the years, but this is the first time she has brought a crown home.

She said: “This is a new competition to the city this year, it has more of a modelling focus, and I really wanted to win this one. I really threw myself into the charity side of the contest and held a charity night at Thorney Close club, as well as other fundraising.

“I’ve always suffered with confidence issues and at other contests I’ve tended to walk down the catwalk with my head down. This one was different, I just went out there and enjoyed it, and I think that’s what’s made the difference.”

Jade’s prize also includes a beauty prize package, provided by Bellissimi Beauty including £50-worth of Mac make up, a photoshoot with David Miller Photography and a voucher from La Sweet Boutique Designs.

Ailish Shaw, regional director of Top Model of Sunderland, said: “Jade is proof that if you want to succeed you have to try, try again and never lose hope. She is a well-deserving winner and is a great representation for the area. Jade will be continuing her charity work and I’m looking forward to seeing her year unfold as Top Model of Sunderland 2016.”
