Castle Eden sink Swalwell in play-off to clinch promotion to North East Premier League

The Durham Cricket League champions finally got the go-ahead against their Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League opponents at the Emirates Riverside, following last weekend’s washout at Ropery Lane.
Castle Eden batted first and lost opener Liam Irwin for just three.

Spellman and McGlasham put on 74 for the second wicket.
In reply, Swalwell made a reasonable start as they reached 61-1, despite seeing opener Chris Hewison dismissed without scoring.
The Tynesiders lost vital wickets through the middle order and were eventually all out for 153, leaving them short by 34 runs.

Jeremy Warner grabbed four wickets to inspire Castle Eden, while Keith Bailey and Alan Unsworth took two apiece. Brennan Ball and McGlasham also struck.
