Car suffers engine fire in city centre street

Firefighters were called to a Sunderland city centre today after fire broke out in a car engine.

A crew from Sunderland Central attended Burdon Road, opposite the Museum and Winter Gardens, at around 1.30pm after the engine of a Peugeot 407 caught alight.

The street came to a standstill as firefighters made the vehicle safe.
