Car stolen from Hartlepool street dumped in Horden after police chase

A POLICE chase ended in a suspected stolen car being dumped near a park.

Officers say a blue Citroen Berlingo had been stolen from Southbrooke Avenue, in Hartlepool, some time last month.

The car was spotted by a road policing unit vehicle belonging to Durham Police in Horden.

After a short chase, the car was abandoned near Horden’s Welfare Park and a man made off on foot.

The male was caught and was being questioned by Peterlee CID on Monday afternoon.

The call was received around 2.30pm and the man was arrested within 40 minutes.

A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft.

A spokesman for Peterlee CID said: “A vehicle was stolen from the Hartlepool area and was sighted in Horden. It was abandoned by the driver who made off on foot.

“A male has been detained and is currently in custody.”
