Car overturns on A690 after hitting lamp post
The emergency services were called to the route, a short distance beyond its junction at Stoney Gate and close to the junction with the A182 at Houghton, shortly before 4pm today, Monday, January 18, following the crash.
Traffic was left queuing on the route as it approaches Houghton Cut on the Durham-bound side of the road while police worked to recover the vehicle.

Hide AdThe North East Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to the scene at 3.38pm. It sent two crews from its Hazardous Area Response Team (Hart) and they remained in attendance an hour after the first reports came in of the collision as they worked alongside police to clear the incident.
No one needed hospital treatment, with the driver sustaining minor injuries.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 3.40pm today we received a report a car had overturned on Durham Road in Houghton.
"It was reported the vehicle had been travelling on the westbound carriageway when collided with a lamppost before overturning near the Houghton Cut.

Hide Ad"Officers and emergency services attended the scene and the westbound carriage way of the A690 was closed at the A19.
"The occupant of the vehicle is believed to have sustained minor injuries.”
Emergency services remain at the scene and motorists are asked to avoid the area to help ease congestion.
