Bring down allowances
The Echo reported Councillors in Sunderland cut back on claims (March 8).
They are trying to pull the wool over our eyes.
Their 2014/15 expenses claims were £246,211.97, more than Newcastle’s councillors (who do a good job).
Instead of hiking up the rates by 4% (2% would have been acceptable), they should do the decent thing and bring their allowances to the same level as Newcastle City Council.
They would then have nearly a quarter of a million pounds towards bringing the city centre up to a decent standard.
