Bradley had his head shaved to lessen the impact of his hair falling out as he underges chemotherapy.

His parents Gemma and Carl Lowery, both 33, were there to support their brave little boy as his hair was cut at Lorraine’s hairdressers in Front Street, Blackhall.

Mum Gemma, called the day ‘emotional’ but said she was delighted to have raised £2,000 from the shave which will go towards the £700,000 needed for treatment in the US.

She said: “It went really well, Bradley wasn’t bothered by it, he said he quite likes it and and thinks he looks like a footballer.

“We had it done at our local hairdressers where Bradley has always gone, as he wouldn’t have it done anywhere else!

“Me and my husband were there and it was quite emotional for us.

“This time though it wasn’t as bad, as Bradley was quite excited about it. But it was still awful, as although we know that he is poorly, when his hair goes it makes the reality of it all really hit home.”

Tumours were found during checks on the four-year-old from Blackhall last month, with further tests confirming his neuroblastoma has returned.

He has been undergoing a stem cell harvest, which may have to be repeated, spent six nights in hospital after he became ill because of his wiped-out immune system and had to have seven blood transfusions in addition to the tough cancer-killing treatment.

Gemma added: “We are over the moon to have raised £2,000 from it, it is fantastic and we have had amazing support from everybody.

“With Bradley being in and out of hospital, a lot of his friends there have lost their hair, so it is not strange to him.

“So far we managed to riase £275,000 towards the overall total. It is a slow progression but we have a lot of events coming up to increase that amount.

“At the moment Bradley needs to have chemo over here to get him as close as possible to the stage where we can go to New York and get the Hu3F8 treatment which has been proven to prevent a relapse.”
