Boy pulled from sea after search for missing teenager off Sunderland coast

A boy has been pulled from the water by rescue crews searching for a missing teenager who got into difficulty while swimming at Roker.

It came after two 17-year-old boys were seen in the water at the mouth of the Wear near the Old Pier at Sunderland Yacht Club At 3.22pm today,

It’s thought they had been in a dinghy and then entered the water to swim, subsequently getting into difficulty.

One of the males was rescued, along with two 17-year-old girls who were also in the dinghy.

A search operation was launched to rescue the missing 17-year-old.

Our team reported seeing a boy being pulled from the water by rescue crews.

He was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where his condition is being described as critical with serious injuries.

The other three teenagers are in a stable condition.

A spokeswoman from the Coastguard said: “A casualty was recovered from the water at 5.10pm by the Sunderland RNLI lifeboat after the police helicopter spotted something in the water. The casualty was transferred to hospital by ambulance.”
