Boldon's History Group Committee members met up recently to plan the 2016 programme for the group. This month's group meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 26, in the function room of The Grey Horse in East Boldon at 7pm. The speaker. Larry Hetherington will give a talk and presentation on the History of Sunderland Life Brigade.

A quiz night with supper is being held at St George’s Church in East Boldon on Friday, February 12.

A coffee morning will be held at the United Reformed Church on Front Street, East Boldon, on Saturday, February 20. All are welcome.

The United Benefice of the Boldons, Benefice Music Worship Group of St Nicholas, West Boldon, St Nicholas, Hedworth and St George’s, East Boldon, are currently looking for new members to join a choir made up from the three parishes.

The Burns Night Supper which is being held this Saturday in the United Reformed Church hall in East Boldon is a joint venture with St Nicholas Church in West Boldon.

Last autumn pupils at Boldon School took part in many after-school activities including a visit bowling at The Dunes Bowling with Escape Interventions and a visit to Quaser Laser at The Dunes. A five-a-side football tournament took place on the 3G pitch at Clegwell Community Association in Heburn in October and at Temple Park Leisure Centre in November. A climb and BBQ was held at Simonside Climbing Wall in South Shields at which children from the age of five and their families were welcomed.

At a meeting of West Boldon Residents’ Association last week members expressed their delight that the Village Store and Post Office on Addison Road is now back up and running and minuted a warm welcome to the village and wished every success to Mr and Mrs Sandhu, the new Postmaster and his wife. Post Office and shop services are available from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, 6am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday hours are Post Office 6am to 10am but shop remains open for business until 1pm. The association’s next meeting will take place in The Wheatsheaf in West Boldon at 10am on Wednesday, February 10. Feel free to join in with the group if you are interested.

East Boldon Infants School will be holding a series of workshops to inform parents about the curriculum and how they can support their child’s learning in the latter part of this month. After-school clubs at the school this term will include Monday Katie’s Garden (Y2), Tuesday Football (Y1), Wednesday Zumba (Y1 & Y2), Thursday Little Dribblers (Reception) and Friday Kablooey (Y1 & Y2). Music will continue for Y2 on Wednesday and Y1 on Thursday and French classes have started and will run for nine weeks.
