Students from Boldon School's Year 7 headed back to Powburn in Northumberland last term for a fantastic weekend. They visited the Ingram Valley and Cragside and enjoyed midnight walks and playing games.

East Boldon Methodist Church will hold a coffee morning on Wednesday, February 17, at 10am, the proceeds of which will be shared with St Clare’s Hospice. The event will be held in the church hall, on the corner of Bridle Path. There will also be bring-and-buy, cake stall and homemade refreshments on sale.

The Boldons History Group will meet in the function room of The Grey Horse in East Boldon on Tuesday, February 23, at 7pm. A talk and presentation will be given by Roma Garbutt on the subject Europe Ascendant.

Local Folk Group Seganainm will host the Folk Club at the Cricket Club, on Sunderland Road in East Boldon, this Thursday at 8pm. Admission is free. On Thursday,February 25, the band will be playing at the Alberta Social Club, near Jarrow Metro Station. This month, the band will once again be playing at the Jarrow Hall in Bede’s World every Friday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome to these events.

East Boldon Library will hold an Explore Learning Literacy workshop on Friday, February 19, from 9.30am to 10.30am, with a Day at the Zoo for ages five to six and from 11am to noon Beast Quest for ages 10-plus. On the same day from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. It will be Captain Underpants for ages eight to nine and from 3pm to 4pm Alice in Wonderland for ages six and seven. These workshops are free but spaces are limited so please book by contacting the library on 424 7853.

Services at the churches in the United Benefice of the Boldons on Ash Wednesday are St Nicholas in West Boldon Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes at 7.30pm, St George’s in East Boldon 9.30am and St Nicholas in Hedworth Lane, Boldon Colliery at 7.15pm.

An afternoon tea will take place on Wednesday, April 27, from 2pm to 3.30pm in East Boldon Methodist Church hall, hosted by Enid Bond’s flower arranging class which takes place every Wednesday in the church hall. Homemade refreshments will be available as well as a cake stall and bring-and-buy. The flower club ladies will be raffling and selling fresh flower arrangements they have made. Always a popular event so make a date in your diary.

Holy mass and distribution of Ashes at The Sacred Heart RC Church on New Road, Boldon Colliery, will be held at noon tomorrow.

A quiz night with fish and chip supper will be held this Friday at St George’s Church in East Boldon and a coffee morning will be held at the church on Saturday, February 20, from 10am.

Boldon Churches Together will hold a weekly series of short services throughout Lent followed by a light lunch starting on Thursday, February 18, at St George’s in East Boldon at noon. The following week the venue will be East Boldon Methodist Church.
