Boldon Community Association spring/summer workshops taking place in the centre in New Road, Boldon Colliery include jewellery making, medieval woodcutts and witchcraft inspired lino cut print making. The sessions are free with a voluntary contribution of £2. Per session to cover materials. Contact 424 7853 for more details.

St Nicholas Church in West Boldon will hold a pie and peas supper with bingo and Play Your Cards Right on Monday, May 23, at 7.30pm in the parish hall on Rectory Bank. Cost per person is £5.50. A plant fair will be held in the parish hall on Saturday, May 28, and refreshments etc will be available.

West Boldon Residents’ Association will hold a fish and chips supper and Dutch auction at The Wheatshaf in West Boldon on Wednesday, June 1, at 5pm (this is a change of date to previously advertised). Tickets are £6, available on 5363502.

Cleadon Floral Arrangement Society will meet tonight at 7.30pm in All Saint’s Parish hall in Cleadon for the May meeting. Val Guest will arrange flowers on the theme In the Frame. Arrangements will be raffled at the end of the demonstration and light refreshments will be served.

Local folk group Seganianm will perform on Thursday, May 26, at the Alberta Social Club beside Jarrow Metro Station for Friends of the Irish Night.

A craft and natter afternoon will take place in St Nicholas Church in Hedworth Lane, Boldon Colliery, every second Wednesday of the month from 1pm-3pm. The next session will be on May 25.

Coffee morning and spring plant fair will be held at East Boldon Methodist Church, on the corner of Bridle Path, from 10am tomorrow.

A brilliant new source of information for family historians is contained in the 1939 Register, which was taken at the outbreak of war. This register is a great snapshot of life in 1939 and is free to use in South Tyneside Libraries. A demonstration of its use will take place in East Boldon Library on Friday from 10am-noon. During the week May 16 to 20, East Boldon Library will also feature a Boldon Colliery – Do you remember event as part of the Local History Month, displaying a collection of material (some recently donated).

South Tyneside Library’s Central Library Theatre will feature the film Gaslight at 2pm on Friday. Cost is £1.50.

The Happy Shack After-School Club, based in the Scout Hut in East Boldon (next to The Grey Horse), school pick-ups from Forest View School as well as East and West Boldon schools and holiday care is open to all children aged four to 11 from any school. An open session will be held on Wednesday. June 8, from 3.15pm-5.30pm. The school is registered for children aged three up to 14 and is rated Good by Ofsted. There is an extensive range of resources and equipment for child-led games and activities. which can be checked out on Facebook – Annemarie & Linda’s Happy Shack.
