The Boldon Miners and Community Banner Group will meet in the Robert’s Room of the BCA on New Road, Boldon, at 7.30pm on Tuesday, August 2. New members, or anyone interested in the work of the group is always welcome. Members of the committee would like to convey their condolences to Mrs David Hopper and his family on the sad death of David Hopper, secretary of the Durham Miners’ Association. Mr Hopper was instrumental in 2008 in bringing together a small group of people interested in keeping the memory and history of Boldon Colliery, its workers and the Boldon community alive by having a new Boldon Miners’ Banner, designed by local schoolchildren and paraded through Durham and dedicated in Durham Cathedral at the Durham Miners’ Gala the following year. This banner has been supported and paraded by Boldon men and women each year at the Gala headed by a Brass Band. This has been made possible by the financial support given to the group by South Tyneside CAF to whom members would like to pass on their grateful thanks.

This Sunday will see the start of the Get into Golf @ Boldon Golf Club, the Lottery-funded five hours of ladies beginner coaching by PGA Professional Simon Robinson on four Sundays until August 21 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm and the fifth on Saturday, August 27.
