The MGFA players at Boldon School were rewarded for their effort and commitment to the Football Academy this year with a tour around St James Park. All students enjoyed the day and were great ambassadors for Boldon School.

After months of anticipation, Groundwork, the charity which runs West Boldon Lodge, has reopened Jarrow Hall again to visitors. You can say hello to the rare breed animals down on the Anglo Saxon Farm and discover the life story of the father of English history and see the Codex Amiantinus for the first time in the Bede Museum. West Boldon Lodge, on the outskirts of West Boldon Village, is a unique education centre set within a thriving nature site. Friendly and knowledgeable staff run projects on site and across the region including family events, adult training, volunteering and school visits. During December, Santa and his Elves will return to West Boldon Lodge to find boys and girls who want to become official Elf Helpers where you will learn the basics in Elf School. A Christmas bus trip has been arranged by Joyce Longstaff to York on Friday, November 25. The trip will leave from outside St George’s Church in East Boldon at 8.30am. There will be the option of going to York Design Shop Outlet. Tickets cost £15 per person.

Tickets for A quiz night with supper at St George’s Church in Front Street, East Boldon, on Friday, November 11, at 7.30pm are on sale. Cost is £6 per person, available from Edna Ford on 536 2669.

An advance arts writers group takes place every four weeks at 6.30pm in Hedworthfield Community Association Centre, Cornhill, Fellgate, Jarrow. New members are welcome. If you are a writer or an aspiring writer pop along to this informal, friendly meeting. Contact 519 6700 for further information.

East Boldon Methodist Church, corner of Bridle Path in East Boldon, will hold a Remembrance Day Service to which all are welcome to attend on Friday, November 11, at 10. 45am.

Boldon Golf Club will host a Laughing Factory Comedy Night at the club, presented by Scott Jordan entertainments, on Friday, November 18. Tickets are £10 from the golf club.

Local Folk Band Seganainm will host the Folk Club at The Grey Horse in East Boldon this Thursday at 7.30pm. The event is free and everyone is welcome.

There is a new archery class at Boldon Community Centre on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9.45pm. Contact the centre on 536 8085 for more details.

The Friendship Club with afternoon tea takes place on the second Tuesday of the month from 2pm to 3pm at East Boldon Methodist Church. All are welcome. The first and third Wednesday coffee morning of the month including bring-and-buy, cake stall, raffle and homemade refreshments will take place tomorrow at 10am in the church hall, on the corner of Bridle Path in East Boldon.

Cleadon Floral Arrangement Society will hold its special Christmas Floral Demonstration on Tuesday, November 15, at 7.30pm. Go along and get in the mood for Christmas with lots of tips and ideas for decorating your home this year with a floral touch. The demonstrator will be Wendy Smith, from Durham, who will arrange her flowers on the theme Christmas is Coming. Sadly, this will be the last meeting of Cleadon Flower Club. Due to a lack of new membership the club is folding after 48 years of monthly meetings in the village. Please join members and take this opportunity to make it a memorable occasion. Light seasonal refreshments will be served and all fresh floral arrangements will be raffled.

West Boldon Residents’ Association will meet in The Wheatsheaf, West Boldon, at 10am on Wednesday, November 9. Items on the agenda will include a members’ Christmas tea and the Carols Around the Tree Christmas Festival, which takes place around the Christmas tree on Addison Road in the middle of the village at 6.30pm on Wednesday, December 14. The community carol singing will be accompanied by The People’s Mission Silver Band, from South Shields and West Boldon Primary School Choir will be performing. Santa will pay a visit and hot soup will again be kindly supplied by The Red Lion. The Christmas Festival is very kindly supported by South Tyneside Council CAF.
