Boldon - Down Your Way

For families who like spending time together, the Forest Play School sessions will start on Mondays from February 27 at 12.45pm to 2.45pm for six weeks and on Fridays starting March 3 at 10am to noon for six weeks. The cost is £30 per child for all six sessions for children aged one to five.

Year 7 pupils at Boldon School had a fantastic three days off timetable completing a Cross Curricular Cultural Project based around Japan. The first two days saw students working around a carousel of subjects from experiments in science, origami in mathematics to Japanese music. Elizabeth Kane from the Customs House attended to do a NoH Mask workshop where all students produced their own mask using oil pastels. On the final day students prepared a showcase where they presented the work they had completed. Over 60 family and friends attended the show with the parents not only enjoying the showcase but also able to see what their children had been working on and how well they had settled into Boldon School. Many skills and experiences were gained in the three days as they worked towards achieving their Discovery Arts Award through Trinity College, London, and the work done will be further assessed by Elizabeth Kane.

West Boldon Residents’ Association will hold an Italian night in Leonardo’s Italian Restaurant in West Boldon tomorrow for members and friends. The association’s next meeting will take place in The Wheatsheaf in West Boldon at 10am on March 8.

Boldon Churches Together will hold Lenten Services again this year each week during Lent. A short devotional service at noon will be followed by a light lunch at 12.30pm at one of the churches in the Boldons. Commencing Thursday, March 9, the first service will take place at St George’s Church on Front Street in East Boldon, and the following week at East Boldon Methodist Church on Thursday, March 16.

A Musical Extravaganza, which is part of the ‘Talking Jesus Mission’ being held across the Boldon Churches of St Nicholas, Hedworth, St George’s, East Boldon and St Nicholas in West Boldon over the weekend commencing March 2, will take place in St George’s Church in East Boldon on Thursday, March 2, at 7.30pm. Featuring a varied programme of music and singing provided by the Harton Harmonisers, a brass ensemble, folk groups and the Benefice Worship Group Choir. All are welcome.

Boldon Wado Ryu Karate Club of Martial Arts takes place in Boldon School on Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm (first lesson free). Children and adults all welcome. New starters can join at any time. Call along and enjoy the friendly atmosphere and speak to the 4th Dan club instructor who has 32 years of experience in martial arts.

The successful Helen Gibson Nursery in East Boldon has a bright future and is looking forward to many more years of early year education within the East Boldon area. From this September some children will be eligible for a 30-hour place in the nursery. For details contact [email protected] The Nursery also benefits from an out of school facility which offers breakfast and an after school club for children who attend the nursery and also East Boldon infants and junior schools.

The West Boldon Memories Group, which is sponsored by Greggs the Bakers, will meet in the St Nicholas Parish Hall on Monday, February 27, at 10am. The subject is ‘Entertainment’, and this will be followed by a Gregg’s buffet lunch in the hall.
