Body of a missing Sunderland man found in Blackpool

Police have confirmed that a body found at a property in Blackpool earlier this year is that of a missing Sunderland man.

Gavin Sanderson, of Scruton Avenue in the Plains Farm area of Sunderland was reported as missing to police on Thursday, May 27.

Police leading the search said that the 40-year-old had last been seen in Sunderland but Cumbria Police had believed that he may have travelled to the Carlisle area.

Officers had found a body at a property in Blackpool on Monday, June 1 – with police confirming today (Friday, June 4) that it was Mr Sanderson.

It is also understood that police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "Police can confirm that the body of Gavin Sanderson, 40, of Scruton Avenue, Sunderland was found at a property in Blackpool, on Monday, June 1.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious."
