Biker injured in crash with car on Wessington Way

A biker had to be taken to hospital following a smash in Washington.

The A19 northbound at the junction with Wessington Way.

The male rider was on his Suzuki bike when he was involved in a collision with a Volkswagen Tiguan Match on the A1231 Wessington Way.

The road had to be closed while the debris was cleared and the biker was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He has since been discharged.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "At 7.30pm on Sunday, police were informed that a motorbike and a car had collided on Wessington Way in Washington.

"The road was closed for a short time to allow the lane to be cleared.

"The rider of the motorbike was taken to hospital and has since been discharged."

The driver of the car was unhurt in the crash.
