A meeting of Eden Vale Residents’ Association will take place tonight at 6.30pm in Richard Avenue Primary School. Issues affecting the Eden Vale area will be under discussion, and police and councillors attend.

Crime Awareness In Banking is the title of a talk to be given by Anthony Pickering, a Barclays bank official, to members of Sunderland Men’s Probus Club at their first meeting of the new year in Ashbrooke Sports Pavilion on Wednesday, January 27, at 10.30am. Visitors are welcome, there is no charge.

As part of Sunderland City Council’s Wellness Walking Programme, a health walk will take place in Barnes Park on Mondays from 1.30pm-2.30pm. Meet outside The Coach House Cafe. Led by friendly volunteer walk leaders and staff, the walks are a great way to get out in the fresh air, have fun, meet new people and improve your physical and mental wellbeing. Suitable for all ages, fitness levels and abilities, the walk lasts for between 30 and 90 minutes and are tailored to meet the needs of the walkers in the group.

Praise 4 All will be held on the last Sunday of the month, January 31, at 4pm in St Nicholas Church. This service aims to provide a space to spend time in God’s presence through songs, hymns, prayer, ministry and testimonies. Everyone is welcome, from the very youngest to the young at heart. You are assured of a warm welcome.

Sunderland Floral Art Club will meet today at 2pm in The Royalty Theatre. Katie-Jane Pridmore will give a demonstration entitled If You Go Down To The Woods Today. Sunderland Floral Art Club is the oldest floral art club in the city and is to celebrate its Emerald anniversary (40 years). It’s a small, friendly club meeting on the third Tuesday of the month at 2pm and new members are welcome. Visitors to the club pay £4.

Sunderland Ladies’ Probus Club is going for its annual lunch on Thursday, January 28, to The Sea Hotel. The coach will leave from St John’s Church, Ashbrooke, at 11am.

Bowls, Badminton and table tennis is on offer at Ewesley Road Methodist Church. Sessions, which cost £1, are very leisurely with a cuppa and a biscuit half way through. The bowls session is on a Monday from 7pm-9pm with the badminton/table tennis session on a Friday from 7pm-9pm.

Get the new year off to a good start by going to Ewesley Road Methodist Church coffee morning at 10am on Saturday. There will be a homebaking stall and a table for unwanted Christmas gifts. Drop in for a good chat with good company. A happy new year from Ewesley Road.

Ewesley Road WI will meet in The Enid Dagg Room of the church on Wednesday, February 3, at 2.15pm. Speaker will be Anne Chisholm on Tea and More – Ringtons. Stall will be cakes.

A vintage and craft fair will be held at Sunderland Minster on Saturday, February 6, from 10am-3pm. Admission is 50p, children free. Local crafts, including hand-crafted cards and gift bags, along with jewellery, hand-knitted items and lots more will be available.

Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship will meet tomorrow at 7.30pm. This is a members’ evening and there will also be a sales table.

Outlook, a relaxed midweek service for all, will take place at St Gabriel’s Church on Monday, January 25, from 2pm-3pm. Usually the service is held on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. It is a short, informal service, followed by refreshments and a chat.

Arthritis Care Sunderland will, whose patron is Denise Robertson, will meet in The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital, on Wednesday, February 3, from 6pm-8pm. Peter McQuillan , from Oliver’s Dental Studio, will be the guest speaker. Members of the group were disappointed that Denise was unable to make their Christmas meal due to unforseen circumstances.
