St Nicholas Church, in partnership with Sunderland City Council via the East Area Committee, is now a Community Connector Hub for the east ward of Sunderland. Being a Community Connector Hub enables local projects, which are rooted in their community, to draw upon service providers with expertise in a specific field in order to address the targeted needs of a given community. This is coupled with the opportunity to attend monthly network meetings with the local ward councillor, council members, service providers and the five project teams. The project officially launches this month and is headed up as Open Arms, which St Nicholas Church has already been running for a few months. It aims to provide support for those who care for others, along with reducing social isolation. Open Arms coffee morning is held on the first Wednesday of every month in the Haver Hall at the church at 10.30am. The programme model will include various activities, opportunity to share stories, to simply listen and be listened to, as well as providing signposting information. Go along and be assured of a warm welcome if this could be of help or interest to you or someone you know.
