Athena Whitely thoroughly enjoyed her experience at the recent Northern Karate Association Competition on Sunday. She walked away with two first place and a second place trophy. In the recent Northern Karate Association Competition, Ava West represented St Mark’s Community Association Karate Club. Ava came away with a fourth place trophy in the Green Belt Individual Kata. The club meets on a Sunday from 5pm-6pm. All her fellow students, parents and instructor Rebecca were all very proud of her achievement. The Road To The White House is the title of a talk to be given to members of Sunderland Men’s Probus Club by Donald Wood at the next meeting in Ashbrooke Sports Pavilion on Wednesday, March 23, at 10.30am. Visitors are welcome, no charge.

Messy Church is held at St Gabriel’s Church on the second Wednesday of every month in the underchurch at 3.30pm.

An Easter event will be taking place at St Luke’s Neighbourhood Centre, Pallion, on Saturday, March 26, from 10am-3pm. There will be an adult and child Easter bonnet competition with a prize for both the best adult and child. There will also be a Spot The Bunny and Chicks in the Shop Window Competition. Entry forms are available from the shops on Pallion shopping terrace. During this event there will be a table-top sale, £7 per table for sellers, raffles, tea and coffee and refreshments.

The next Eden Vale Residents’ Association meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, from 6.30pm-8pm at Richard Avenue Primary School.

Sunderland Cardiac Support Group monthly meeting is on Thursday at 6.45pm in The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital. Guests are The Canny Folk, musical entertainment.

Outlook, a relaxed midweek service, will be held at St Gabriel’s Church on Monday, March 14, from 2pm-3pm. This is a short, informal service, followed by refreshments and a chat.

Ewesley Road Methodist Church is holding an Easter Messy Church on Saturday from 10am-noon and the theme will be Palm Sunday. All are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Light refreshments will be served.

Barnes Pallion and Millfield Residents’ Association meeting will be held on tonight, a week later than normal, at 7pm and the venue is St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street.

Robert Louis Stephenson’s pirate tale, Treasure Island, is adapted for the stage at The Royalty Theatre from March 21-26, with performances at 7.30pm and a matinee on Saturday, March 26, at 2.30pm. Box office can be contacted on 0844 8700887.

Sunderland Floral Art Club will meet in The Royalty Theatre on Tuesday, March 15, at 2pm. Guest Heather Curry will give a demonstration entitled The Basket Case. Visitors pay £4. All are welcome.

Soup and Socks will be at St Nicholas Church on Saturday from 12.30pm-1.30pm.

Sunderland Ladies’ Probus Club will meet on Thursday, March 24, in St John’s Church, Ashbrooke, when Prof John Derry will be guest speaker. The title of his talk is The Little Corporal. Coffee is served at 10am and the meeting begins at 10.30am.

Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship will meet tomorrow at 7.30pm for a coffee evening for AFC and there will also be a cake stall.

A table-top sale will be held at St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street, on Saturday from 10am-noon. The centre opens at 9am to set up. Tables are £5 and this is will be followed by tea and bingo at 1.30pm, also in the parish centre.

Lent lunch will be held at st Nicholas Church Haver Hall on Saturday, March 19, at 12.30pm. The cost is £3 to include choice of soup, bread, homemade cake and tea or coffee. Everyone is very welcome. Half the money raised goes towards a chosen charity and half to church funds

Call into St Gabriel’s coffee morning on Saturday from 10.30am-noon, in aid of church funds. Coffee and a scone, is £1 and there will also be a cake stall and raffle.

An Easter coffee morning will be held at Burn Park Methodist Church on Saturday, March 19, from 10am-noon. Bacon and sausage sandwiches will be served and there will be stalls.

Compass Acapella will be performing at St Gabriel’s Church on Saturday, April 23, from 7pm-9pm. Tickets are £4, available from The church office on 5142397, when acknowledged send a cheque before the show, made payable to Saint Gabriel’sPCC to the Reverend June Talbot, c/o Lower Flat, Steir House. Saint Gabriel’s Avenue, Sunderland Sr4 7TC. All proceeds are for church funds.

On Tuesday , March 15, at 7pm it will be Passover Supper Night at St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street. Take a ticket and sign the list on the table if you are intending to be part of this event, as they need to know numbers. Faith supper – bring something for the table, but no pork products.
