Lots of people attended the Minster Vintage and Craft Fayre held at the Minster. Items on sale included jewellery, handicrafts, handcrafted greetings cards, cupcakes, knitted items and glassware. The fairs take place on the first Saturday of the month. The next one will be on Saturday, April 2. Refreshments are available.

Messy Church at Ewesley Road Methodist Church took place on Sunday, March 12. Everyone who attended had a great time.

At their recent meeting, the Lions Club of Sunderland heard a talk by Peter Talbot, whose latest venture was skiing in Spitzbergen in the Arctic. He showed some wonderful pictures of camping in the snow. He even managed to capture a shot of a polar bear. He was raising money for Prostate Cancer Research and Lion Mike Evans, chair manof the service committee, handed over a cheque for £250 towards his charity.

The Road To The White House is the title of a talk to be given by Donald Wood to members of Sunderland Men’s Probus Club at their meeting tomorrow at 10.30am in Ashbrooke Sports Pavilion. Visitors are welcome, no charge.

Wednesday Brownies at St Nicholas Church are collecting Active Kids Vouchers and would be grateful for any donations of them, which they will share with Messy Church at St Nicholas.

Deptford and Millfield CA is holding a jumble sale on Saturday, April 2, at 2pm. Jumble is urgently required, pass in to the CA on Mondays from 1pm-4pm, Wednesdays 10am-4pm, Thursdays at 11a. and Saturdays 9am-noon.

On Good Friday, St Nicholas Church will hold Junior Church at 12.30pm followed at 2pm by Liturgy of the Last Hour. On Sunday at 6am there will be an Easter Vigil and at 10.30am Holy Communion

Sunderland Ladies’ Probus Club meets in St John’s Church, Ashbrooke, on Thursday for a talk by Prof John Derry onThe Little Corporal. Coffee is served at 10am and the meeting begins at 10.30am.

Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship meet tomorrow at 7.30pm. The Rev David Richardson will talk about Easter Communion.

Pallion Gospel Hall holds a Family Service on The last Sunday of the month at 4pm, followed by tea.

Bishops At The Minster is the name of the new cafe at Sunderland Minster. Open Monday to Saturday from 10am-3pm.

An Easter event at St Luke’s Neighbourhood Centre, Pallion, takes place on Saturday from noon-3pm (stallholders 10.30am). This event is sponsored by Pallion Traders. Among the attractions is an adult and child Easter bonnet competition with a prize for both adult and child. Spot The bunny and chicks in the shop windows competition, entry forms available from the shops on Pallion Shopping Terrace. The table-top sale takes place in St Luke’s Neighbourhood Centre. Refreshments will be available.

Arthritis Care Sunderland Branch will meet in The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital, on Wednesday, April 6, from 6pm-8pm. The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month.

A Compass Acapella concert will be held in St Gabriel’s Church on Saturday, April 23, from 7pm-9pm. Tickets cost £4 and must be bought before the event, available from the church office on 5142397. All proceeds are for church funds.

The United Benefice of St Mark and St Luke offer the following Easter services: Maundy Thursday 7pm, Eucharist supper at St Luke’s; Good Friday at 10am Reflections and Planting of The Cross at St Mark’s; Easter Eve at 6pm Easter Fire followed by sausage sizzle at St Mark’s; Easter Sunday Holy Communion 9.15am at St Luke’s and 11am at St Mark’s.

Ward surgeries for the Millfield area are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 10.30am-11.30am in the Residents’ Room, Astral House; the second Saturday of the month, except August and December, 11am-noon Back Room, St Mark’s CA; the third Thursday of the month 5.30pm-6.30pm St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street; the fourth Wednesday of the month from 2pm-3pm Sunderland Central Fire Station. Millfield ward residents can discuss any concerns or issues, in confidence.
